Oven Baked Boerewors Boerewors pronounced as Boo-ruh-vors is a South African sausage that is mostly grilled. Served with baked potato wedges.

The name boerewors comes from Afrikaans words Boer which means “farmers” and wors which means “sausage. so initially boerewors means farmers’ sausage.

You can not visit South Africa and leave without tasting this delicious sa boerewors recipe. this oven grilled sausage is one of the most delicious South African cuisine.

HOW BOEREWORS IS MADE

This sausage is made of 90% meat and 10% spices, these spices mostly include preservatives, vinegar and salt. mostly sausage contains beef but it can also contain pork.

BOEREWORS SPICES

The spices or seasoning includes nutmeg, vinegar, salt, coriander and black pepper.the salt and vinegar act as preservatives.

Boerewors have become popular in many African countries, they are sold in many food outlets including supermarkets like choppies, ShopRite, Melissa etc. Boerewors are mostly prepared during a grilling party but you can still deep fry them, or cook them on the stove, who wouldn’t want cooked boerewors stew? yummy.

POTATO WEDGES
Tasty baked potato wedges, they are perfect and healthier than fried potato wedges. Served on a wooden serving plate with boerewors. These wedges are perfect for a weeknight movie meal. They are as good as restaurant wedges.
These potato wedges are perfect with baked boerewors, oven fried chicken or crispy chicken nuggets. Seasoned with turmeric, coated with extra virgin olive oil, squeezed with lemon for that citric flavor and sprinkled with parsley. These grilled potato wedges are so perfect that you’ll be requesting for more.

Homemade wedges are much better than store-bought. When you make wedges at home, you get an opportunity to use whatever seasoning you want. You can also have a perfect potato wedges marinade.
Potatoes taste great whether fried, baked, roasted or simmered.

HOW TO CUT POTATOES INTO WEDGES

Put raw peeled potatoes on a cutting board.
Cut in half lengthwise.
Cut each half in half lengthwise again.

Soak potatoes in ice cold water for 15 minutes. This step releases some of the starch in the potatoes and lets them absorb moisture, making them crisp outside and tender inside.

HOW TO MAKE POTATO WEDGES

Boil potatoes for 7 minutes, add a teaspoon of turmeric and salt. remove from the stove and drain.

Preheat oven to 179°C.
Give the wedges a lightly coating of olive oil.
Bake for 20 minutes. Turning the wedges after 10 minutes with a spatula.

Squeeze lemon over the wedges before taking them out of the oven.

Sprinkle with parsley and serve warm.

CAN YOU FREEZE HOMEMADE POTATO WEDGES?
Yes you can!.
Cool them first, then freeze in a single layer on a sheet tray.
Once frozen, transfer them to an airtight container for three months.

Ingredients

  • 6 Medium Russet Potatoes
  • 250 g Boerewors Sausage
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Teaspoon parsley

Instructions

  • Wash,peel and cut Potatos into wedges.
  • Soak potatoes in ice cold water for 15 minutes.
  • Boil the potatoes,add a teaspoon of tumeric and salt then drain.
  • Place the wedges on a baking pan.preheat oven to 170°.
  • Give both the Wedges and sausage a lightly coating of cooking oil.
  • Insert a kebab stick/skewer into the boerewors to maintain moisture and flavor.
  • Grill for 20 minutes 8. Grill the sausage for 10 minutes on both sides.
  • Squeeze lemon over both the wedges and sausage a minute before taking them out of the oven.
  • Sprinkle some Parsley over wedges and serve warm.

    Looks pretty good. I don’t eat meat anymore, but when I did, I enjoyed this kind of sausage dish. Nice and salty.
